This Meeting's Presentation(s):
Least Restrictive Environment & Additional Adult SupportAdditional Information
What is the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) and what codes/levels are available to students? What determines a student’s LRE? What “push in” or “push out” services are available that allow maximum, meaningful learning opportunities for students with disabilities within the general education classroom? Should IEPs be reviewed by the Special Education Department or Family Support Center for students placed in 100% self-contained classrooms before second grade to ensure placement is based on student need and not insufficient resources at the school? (The discussion of this recommendation is not intended to undermine School-based IEP team decisions.)
As a follow-up to parent inquiries about Additional Adult Support, we will discuss when parents and IEP teams should consider additional adult support. We will also discuss when a Dedicated Aid, a paraprofessional, or an Itinerant Special Education Assistant (ISSA) should be considered, and the role of Crisis Intervention Resource Teachers (CIRT).
